Where Law Enforcement Meets Strategic Leadership

It’s been 19 years since I retired from full-time law enforcement after serving as Captain of Criminal Investigations at the Hobbs Police Department. But I didn’t step away from service—I stepped into roles that tested and strengthened the leadership needed for today’s law enforcement challenges.

Over nearly two decades, I’ve been entrusted with leadership in high-stakes, high-accountability environments that have sharpened my skills, broadened my perspective, and prepared me to lead the Lea County Sheriff’s Office with clarity, integrity, and professionalism.

Law enforcement experience provides a strong foundation for leadership. But when combined with broader operational responsibilities—like managing complex systems, leading multi-agency coordination, implementing policy, overseeing compliance, budgeting, crisis response, and building trust across diverse communities—that foundation becomes a powerful platform for effective, modern public service.

Since retiring, I’ve taken on leadership roles that directly reinforce the real-world demands of running a professional and effective sheriff’s office:

-Built and led a full-scale security program for a uranium enrichment facility—an environment where failure wasn’t an option and lives, infrastructure, and national security were on the line. This work required strategic planning, cross-functional leadership, risk management, and precision execution at the highest level.

-Served as an inspector and auditor, identifying systemic vulnerabilities, enforcing standards, and demanding accountability—skills essential for improving transparency and operational discipline in law enforcement.

-Taught concealed carry courses, helping citizens exercise their Second Amendment rights safely, legally, and responsibly—building a culture of informed, empowered community members.

-Led church security teams and helped houses of worship design strategic safety plans—protecting vulnerable spaces with compassion, vigilance, and preparedness.

In these roles, I’ve managed people, policies, operations, and risk. I’ve made high-stakes decisions where the margin for error was zero. I’ve delivered results where trust and safety were on the line.

These real-world leadership experiences don’t just complement my law enforcement background—they enhance it. They’ve further sharpened and proven the traits required of an effective, modern sheriff:

Strategic thinking
Policy implementation
Cross-agency coordination
Crisis management
Transparent communication
Personnel development
Constitutional understanding
Public trust and accountability

But most importantly, these years have embedded in me the mindset of a culture that is disciplined, with a high-integrity approach to leadership that I will bring directly into the Sheriff’s Office.

Stepping outside of law enforcement didn’t pause my mission—it expanded it. These past 19 years have deepened my experience, strengthened my judgment, and equipped me to lead decisively and effectively in today’s complex environment.

I bring to the Sheriff’s Office not only a foundation in law enforcement, but nearly two decades of advanced leadership, operational expertise, and public trust responsibilities—built on integrity, discipline, and a lifelong calling to serve.

I’m not just ready to be sheriff—I’m uniquely prepared to lead, protect, and deliver results that Lea County can trust.

We’ll be sharing more detailed information  throughout the campaign—stay tuned for what’s ahead.
